Mohammed Al-Sofiani, MD MSc, Principal Investigator

Dr. Mohammed Al-Sofiani is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at the King Saud University College of Medicine; and an Adj. Assistant Professor in Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Al- Sofiani is American Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism. His clinical practice and research projects are focused on improving the care of patients with endocrine disorders and diabetes mellitus. He runs endocrinology and diabetes clinics at King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC) and Al-Habib Medical Group (HMG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He also runs a weekly clinic at HMG that is dedicated to diabetes digital health including insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, telemedicine, etc.

Dr. Al-Sofiani Completed his fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism at the Johns Hopkins Hospital ; in Baltimore, MD, USA; along with a one-year training on Statistical Methods in Public Health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University. He completed his training in Internal Medicine from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY, USA. Dr. Al-Sofiani received his Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2013.

Dr. Al-Sofiani's research team conducts clinical studies and quality-improvement projects in the field of diabetes and works on innovative approaches to address the current gaps in diabetes care in the Middle East. Dr. Al-Sofiani’s research team works on these projects in collaboration with governmental, private, and non-profit organizations in KSA and abroad.

Diabetes Digital Health is an area where Dr. Al-Sofiani’s research team has been leading the way in the Middle East through publishing original studies and brief reports, proposing innovative approaches to diabetes care, participating in writing national guidelines and consensus statements, and working side by side with pioneers of diabetes digital health.

As a director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at King Saud University, Dr. Al-Sofiani supervises the training of endocrinology fellows in one of the most prestigious and oldest fellowship programs in KSA and the Middle East.

As the Vice President of the Saudi Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SSEM), Dr. Al- Sofiani is heavily involved in planning and implementing endocrinology-related projects both at a national and international level.
